Tranchemontagne Family

1.  FRANCIS1 TRANCHEMONTAGNE was born in the early 1800’s, he died Bef. 1871.  He married (MARY) METWAIKEMEKENANG.  She was born 1803 in Tahgaiwenene Band, (Wahnapitae First Nation) Ontario, Canada, and died in Killarney, Ontario, Canada.

Notes for METWAIKEMEKENANG:

Metwaikemekenang was a member of the Tahgaiwenene's Band.  Today it is called Wahnapitae First Nation.  It is an Ojibwa band.   The Indian Affairs list for 1876; shows the name Metwaikernekanang with the description "old wom of Killarney" (old woman of Killarney).   Another, for 1883, shows the name Metwaikemekenang with the notation "Mrs. Tranche" beside it.

On the 1871 census, she was listed as: an Indian Widow, age 68, by the name of "Mrs. Tranche" and was living with the Pilon family.  Obviously her name was shorten from Tranchemontagne.
